Food stand

Food is a very arguable topic, I must admit. Some people think eating too much of it, almost stuffing it in, is a disgrace. Some people think when it shows in your body and weight, it's a disgrace. Some people think it's an unhealthy lifestyle to devote oneself to food. Well here's my two cents.

Me and many people out there love food. It's that indescribable feeling when the flavors seep into your taste buds and all the sweet neurons and impulses snuggle up against your brain. Gently, yet so intense, they stay there and keep staying there.

I don't want to go on about how much I love my food. I don't think I have to.

I saw, on a certain television show, the members were debating whether eating food is a waste of time. First of all, food is never a waste of time. Healthily or otherwise, it is not a waste of time. Food is one of the crucial things we need to survive, so how can surviving be a waste of time? Yes, they can also mean eating and indulging too much food is a waste of time. I personally believe that eating is a way to enjoy and to de-stress. It is a very simple and often inexpensive way to top the cherry on the cake when the day ends.

I consider food to be one of the little things in life that brings me happiness. Some people nurtures a certain disinterest towards food because it affects their health, their physical appearance and the weight on the scale.

To be honest, I've been there. I was close to bulimia, I'm not kidding. A lot of people around me don't know this because I've always kept a happy mood around them. My good friends know, they think I'm insane. They kept talking me out of it and thanks to them, I'm really okay now. (and no I'm not going to write more about this, it's not something I'd like to talk about)

One huge lesson I learned from that part of my life: Balance is a powerful key.

I've learned to love fitness and I work out everyday. I know when to watch what I eat, and when to let go of myself. There are also healthy variations of your favorite food on the net, you just got to dig into it.

I don't think I can give up my love for food. I find healthy ways to balance out the calories I consume. It's a win-win situation.

Food is not a waste of time, nor is it a disgrace. Balance and self discipline can carry you a long way, and at the end of the day while you're munching on chicken wings, you'll realize it's not one bit of a bad thing.

Coffee, Cakes, Movies and Music

I hit CityOne with Sam on Sunday to catch a friend's singing contest. She was peerless, fearless and she sang her way to the finals. Big round of applause for her.

Sam and I went for karaoke at 11 in the morning, talk about hyperactive. It's been so long since we went together so we decided that straining our throats a little wouldn't hurt no one. So we were singing Titanium and there's a line where Sia goes "Ricochet, you take your aim..." but instead of "ricochet...", it came out as "brick of shame..." Hahaha we laughed until our tummies hurt, it was such a wrong-place-wrong-time moment.

I grabbed a cup of coffee at TommyBoy before we went for karaoke. Sam called for gelato and we chatted away for awhile. I was feeling great vibes if I must say.

I was quite disappointed, however, of their consistency. I ordered Caramel Macchiato and it was so good. I love how it's a bit sweet and salty at the end of your taste buds. In spite of that, I went back on Monday and what they served me tasted like instant coffee with a little bit of foam topped with caramel syrup which I can hardly discern of. Too bad, they can do much better than this. The picture above was of Sunday's.

Gelato was so-so, too sweet for me. By the way, it's blueberry in the picture.

After my friend's singing event, we all headed for teppanyaki at Kaiju Teppanyaki! I ordered teppanyaki beef and it was good, portion was a bit too small and it's quite pricey but overall it was good. The beef was delicious so i'll give them that. Oh and the service was so so slow. We waited for a good 30 minutes or so but fortunately the singing competition was still going on so we had a show to watch. Phew.

Sam and I were trying to lose some time so Earthlings Coffee Workshop is where we headed to. I heard the coffee's good there but I had coffee in the morning so I chose their signature hot chocolate. It was just chocolate, nothing special though. Well maybe it's just me because every chocolate drink taste like Milo. It's a personal thing.

Barcode Chocolate Cake. Thumbs up! Full of chocolatey goodness, almonds were a bit of a bummer though.

Apple Crumble. It's okay. The apples tasted tad bit weird. Not my style.

I went back to CityOne again on Monday for some me time. Catched whatever movie available, sneaked in some snacks and waffles and spent half of my day in the cinema.

Funny thing happened. I was supposed to go to hall 10 but I mistakenly took it for 01. Went to hall one and everyone was dead serious, guess what? It was showing Insidious. Worst part? It was at it's climax where all the ghost are supposed to appear. I was literally face-palming in my seat before I ran the hell out. Hahaha at least now I can check Insidious off my list...kind of.

I saw Tomorrowland and I cannot stand that girl. She annoys me with her curiosity and that attitude. *rolls eyes* But great concept though, about people being too blinded by greed and politics to care about earth itself.

I loved Man Up better. It's a cute movie about an insecure woman who pretended to be a guy's blind date but they fell in love in the end. I have this prejudice about English romance movies because most of them revolves around sex and well, sex. This ended up as an eye opener for me because I actually laughed along and enjoyed every bit of it.

I met Brandon after the movie. Hahaha what a coincidence, apparently he was teaching his friend add-maths and was waiting for his dad to pick him up.

I had so much fun two days in a row. Hoping for more days like these.
Love, C.

How To Make Kimchi Tuna Onigiri

I tried making Onigiri today. I actually got the idea from Abnormal Summit's Takuya where he made Onigiri for the members there. It's quite a simple dish and it's filling too so you can just eat it as a meal.

I tried putting kimchi in it and it tastes really nice thus I created this Korean-Japanese fusion. To be honest, I actually think that kimbap and onigiri is quite similar. There's Kimchi Tuna Kimbap too actually.

You will need:
-Rice (Any leftover rice would be fine, if not then just cook the amount you would normally cook for a one person serving. I cooked about one cup and it makes 3-4 depending on the size.)
-Tuna Mayo
-Kimchi
-Seaweed. (I don't have one at home so i'm making it without them)
-A bowl of cold water

First, scoop out some rice and flatten them on a plate. (you can put it on your hand if you want but make sure your hand is wet so the rice won't stick to your hands. Since my rice is hot so i'm putting it on a plate.)

I'm using kimchi juice here because the kimchi might not break easily when you eat it. Kimchi juice is fine, you just want that spicy sour taste. Use about one teaspoon and spread it on the rice. Make sure not to spread it on the edges. Just keep it centered.

Add tuna and spread it too, keep it centered. TIP: Add a thick layer because the rice will taste bland if you just add a little. But still not too much cuz' the onigiri will burst.

Now you want to dip your hand in that bowl of water so that the rice wont stick to your hand. Layer a thin layer of rice on top of the filling, just enough to cover them and you would want to kind of seal the edges so slightly press on the top layer and the bottom layer together. Now you're going to take the whole thing in your palms, make sure it's wet and you are going to roll it into a ball or whatever shape you want.

PS: Wet hands is really important because it can really be a mess if the rice starts sticking onto your hands and it can create holes in the onigiri so you must keep your hands wet before handling with the onigiri. Plus I would advice to add as much flavouring and fillings as you want, you can try new fillings too but just be sure to put the amount that's just right so the rice won't taste bland.

Happy cooking!

THROWBACK

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Its been long since i post something decent i know. Im getting there..just hang on. Heh..
So what plans...what crime did i do this holiday?
First i just wanna say you can blame me. Yep. You can.
Been up to alot lately but..okay I can give you all the reasons why I didnt take photos or didnt take enough photos to blog a full post about it.
1. Too busy (pfft lame excuse..please lah!)
2. Sitting at wrong angle (got like this one meh?)
3. Super horrible background/thingy/whatever
4. Phone jammed when magic happened....okay that did not happen.
5. No interesting things to take pics because i've been doing the usuals lately.

Soooooooooooooooo what about I just talk..err i mean write you through the whole process?
Yes or No doesn't matter. Im gonna do it anyway.

GRAVITY...again

First! This one super sien one lor I tell you. I watch Gravity for three times! First time i cried, but the other two times i just literally forgot why in the first place did I cry. Its not like the movie is so frgggggggn nice+awesome+wow+fantabulous ( but its quite nice lah and i'd recommend you watch it IF YOU DIDNT WATCH IT BEFORE). The first time was at LFS cineplex, 2D. Okay I admit it was good. Second time also with the same people at GSC, 3D. Okay lah, first time watching Gravity in 3D still boleh tahan. Very good. THE THIRD TIME HARRRR...was with my friends cos there was nothing to watch already and she wanted to watch Gravity so I admit that I hesitated in my heart but agreed finally. Cant blame her mah..its okay.

Swan Teem Steamboat

Went to Swan Teem or better known as 双天 with the girls just recently. Its located at RH Plaza if you dont know yet. RM 20 for adults 10 for children below 12years. Steamboat actually are all same to me. So im just gonna complain? Nah..dont...dont. Just describe the basics in full speed. Two types soup choose one tom yam or chicken, the typical grill you know lah, food wise its a no for me cos the marinates are not nice enough heh. Actually I really dont know why I dont like that place. Cant figure out. Prolly cos that night was really oily and hot lol. Next is abit better. -->

INSIDIOUS 2

The day after Swan Teem, I went to The Spring to hang out with the gang. Yeah. Love them heh -.- Watched Insidious Chapter 2 that day. I watched the first one before but cant remember well bout it, then that day waisehhhh when the movie is starting, I told myself, face it, its nothing, just a movie. I'm the type of person who likes to "watch" horror movies. By "watch" i mean just listen to the sound lol. That time I really cannot tahan already, cannot tahan the suspense so being the typical one who always takes the wikipedia shortcut, I wiki-ed the plot and finished understanding the movie before the actual ghost appeared. Plus I go google the actress of the ghost and pictures and found out its not that scary lorr. So i got little bit more guts to watch heh. *ihatethesoundsysteminthecinemaftl -.-

U-Garden Steamboat
Then we went for dinner at U-Garden Steamboat. Its behind Song Plaza, opposite CityOne. U-Garden is alot better for me I guess. 29.90 per person. Its abit pricey but its okay for me. U-Garden is using crystal grill so I guess for me it doesn't like "spill oil" you know that kind when you're frying fish and the oil "fly" out and hit you. Damn painful lor. Swan Teem is like that so I prefer U-Garden. They offer two soups at once meaning the pot divide in two, one side tom yam one side chicken. Their marinates are good actually. I like the honey one. :D They offer ready cooked food too like fried noodles, fried rice, sushi and some fried snacks idk. Didn't bother at all cos we all eat steamboat what. Who go layan those ready made one? (alot of people) Being a suaku I must say this. Have you all tried before the machine made MILO? The machine where you press the button then got water come out one.....*aiyorr why do i even bother to explain this. This is so embarrassing* Anyway, its super nice! Different than the ones we make of course. Machine mah duh...I tried it before when I went bowling with the school bowl club last time. (Y)

That's all for now. Now my purse is bleeding. Seriously lost alot of blood.
Bye! xxooxxo

Random Updates: Saturday Dinner.

Hey there! Sorry for the lack of updated. Nothing to post about actually.
My brother's back for his summer break. Yay. Haven't seen him in three months.
We went to CityOne last night to watch a movie.

Thumbs up for Johnny Depp! 5/10 if you ask me. :(

We did a Welcome-Back party for my brother this evening and the dishes was Gnocchi and Momo. (and of course other stuffs too but the important part is those two because that's what i'll be writing about in this post which you will see later.)

Loving this camera right now! Its a Nikon D80 with AFS-NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED wide-angle lensses.

And finally I got a taste of STICKY after so long!

Freaking nice!!

Now on to the main point.

Gnocchi

First you will need mash potatoes, flour and one egg!
Then prepare flour( im not sure how much)

Then add in mash potatoes and egg.

Then KNEAD! And cut into cubes like this.

Then boil it until it floats and prepare whatever sauce you want :) We used the spaghetti bolognese sauce.  (I dont dare to post the finished dish because its kinda fail...)

Momo

We used the currypuff mould to make this.

Same thing. Make dough with flour and salt. Roll it real thin with rolling pin.

For the filling we used minced meat fried with onions, garlic and curry powder.

Viola!

Steamed.

Fried!

No drooling on my screen thank you.

Now to end this post i'll fill you with random shots..

Of my cat. Hahaha just kidding...

Pardon le brother. He wanted to look like a swollen-toothed tiger or something i think. -.-

Bye! Thanks for reading! XOXO

Kuching Festival 2013

Its been years since i've visited the salon but my fringe is dang long so I went to RIGI II hair salon to give myself a new haircut. The service is so good and professional. This is my new hairstyle :D You've probably seen it if you follow my INSTAGRAM.

I still prefer the old fringe, *sobs* but its okay i guess. Can see a little bit of brown colour on my hair yay. That was from the last time I dyed my hair.

Okay lah. -.-

Then I went to this year's Kuching Festival with my friends. In case you dont know what Kuching Festival is, its sort of like a food fair+exhibitions+fun fair sort of thing which happens once a year in Kuching :D *duhh*
Most people go for the food lah! They got all sorts of weird weird food and always turns out amazing. *cheers*
This is the first time I go with friends. Akward sia, all boys. Nevermind.

The horrendously long traffic jam. Its part of the fun actually -.-

The fried fresh milk. I only ate these because.. I DONT KNOW WHY LAH.
Its dang amazing. Sort of like marshmallows like that.

The main point here is you see the chair there. Its empty right? Ya, they left me all alone *sobs* to jaga the table. These kind of people, aiya. lolol
But in the end I tagged along with them.

Kaybye.
Thanks for reading.
XOXO
